An Orange for Frankie
by Paticia Polacco

Patricia Polacco has a rich family history from which to draw her heart-warming stories and to inform her often ethnic-inspired illustration. I love to study all of the festive food she’s rendered, and this book is no exception. Frankie was the brother of Ms. Polacco’s grandmother, and this story is based on him during the Depression. All Frankie can think about is getting a Christmas orange that Pa has gone to buy. But it is a cold winter and there are hobos at the door asking for food. What is a young boy to do?
