The Christmas Coat: Memories of My Sioux Childhood
by Virginia Driving Hawk Sneve
Illustrated by Ellen Beier

The children on the Sioux reservation look forward every year to the boxes of clothing sent to them by a church congregation. It's the time of the Great Depression, and Virginia, as well as many other children, has outgrown her last year's clothes. When the boxes are opened, Virginia's eyes alight on a beautiful gray fur coat that would be perfect for her. But another girl is claiming it. Based on an event from the author's childhood, this picture book captures the true spirit of Christmas. Ms Beier's beautiful illustrations carry the story to it's satisfying end.
